The settings pane

There are several settings you can manage from this panel. They are groupped basically in five areas.

Beggining from the top-left area you can find settings regarding you connection speed (i.e. DSL, LAN etc). You should only set your connection speed as the other settings will be automatically set once you select it. You can anyway set every signle setting in this area and create a personalized configuration.

Above this area you can find IRC settings: server/channel. You can also decide to use irc as a source of peers addresses of other peers, this is left to users, you can find peers on GWebCache, on Jeti or on IRC, it is left to you selecting your preferred way to connect to the ANts network. Selecting the autoreconnect option you can let ants automatically reconnect to irc if disconnected.

IP settings help you to be found by other peers. If you correctly set your public internet address it will be easy for other peers to find you. You can memorize a particular IP and you can also choose to let ANts autostart on run... (immediate connection, no need to click on start ant): this is useful if you want to run ANts at startup. Selecting the autoresume option you can activate the automatic source search & download for pending files on ANts run. You can publish your IP on GWebCache in order to let users to find you. Be sure to publish your IP ONLY IF IT IS STATIC. Don't publish dynamic IP addresses that's useless!

ANts path area let you choose path for downloaded files, partial download chuncks, and browser executable file location.

On the left you can see the HTTP server settings. You should activate http service only if you are running a local http server (i.e. Apache or Jetty). If you activate this option you have to choose a local port, that HAVE to match your webserver port and a Proxy port (any free port). You should give also info about your home page (full relative path) and a brief description (< 255 chars) of the web site.

If you want to keep privacy in publishing web contents you HAVE to put your web server behind a firewall so to make it accessible only through ANts http service.

The language settings let you download the latest lang pack from the official website and select your preferred language (requires restarting ANts).

The remote indexing cache is the dimension of your local index, in your local index you keep remote files you have reacently seen, these files are sent to other users as results with 0 sources reacently seen on the network. You can force an index optimization in order to let ANts run faster. Do this operation only when your pc can remain idle for a while, infact it is a long and heavy process, as it will optimize both your local and remote indexes.
